The Business Opportunity

The assessment of a patient’s pain level is critical to ensure the effectiveness of on-going care. Various studies suggest that using valid and reliable pain-monitoring systems can minimize the use of sedative and analgesic drugs; decrease the patient’s recovery time, lessen the risk of side effects, and reduce direct and indirect costs. Currently, pain level is monitored based on the patient’s subjective statement, if the patient can communicate, or based on physician’s estimation, if the patient cannot communicate.

The technologies used for pain measurement today are based on brain imaging (fMRI), which due to its high cost (millions of dollars for MRI, and hundreds of dollars per test), long duration, and sensitivity to movement is used mainly for diagnosis or research purposes but not for ongoing monitoring. Therefore, there is a need for a low cost and continuous monitoring system with an objective scale for determining and tracking the pain level.

Medasense’s technology enables continuous measuring of the pain level with the same ease and cost as other patient monitors (ECG, SPO2, capnograph, awareness). The unique combination of multiple non-invasive sensors with state-of-the-art algorithms enables the device to monitor pain at any time and with any procedure.
